Solar Panels use Photovoltaic technology: Solar panels absorb the sun's energy throughout the day and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity. Most homes and businesses run on alternating current (AC) electricity, so the DC electricity is then passed through an inverter to change it to usable AC electricity. At that point, you either use the electricity in your house or send it back to the electric grid.

Net Metering is the system that utilities use to credit solar energy system owners for the electricity produced by their solar panels. With net metering, you only pay for the electricity that you use beyond what your solar panels can generate. Net metering policies differ from state to state, so it is important to get up to date information. Our Solar Experts are trained to know and explain the net metering policies available in your area.

There are a variety of factors when it comes to pricing a solar system, like how many panels you need, how much sun your roof receives, and what programs you qualify for. Our Solar Experts can provide you with a quick, accurate quote so you can know exactly how much you will be saving by going solar

The sun rises every day. That's why solar power is a completely renewable, reliable and clean energy source. It reduces our reliance on dirty sources of power such as oil, coal and natural gas, which produce harmful emissions affecting our health and environment. Residential solar energy systems represent an investment in the future of the planet, conserving non-renewable energy sources and protecting the environment. In addition, solar panels and home batteries are becoming more affordable, accessible, resilient and efficient. They provide peace of mind and energy security for households when the power goes out or the next storm strikes. Unlike those from your utility, solar customers pay predictable, affordable rates for 20 to 25 years. With home solar, you get to control your energy future.

Solar and My Home

Every household is different. When determining the number of solar panels your home needs, consider the following questions: How much power do I need? Check your electric bills to see how many kilowatt hours (kWhs) you use throughout the year. We'll go over this with you in detail during your free solar consultation to figure out just how much power your panels will need to produce. What's your climate like? The number of panels you need depends on how much sun reaches the ground where you are. How much direct sun hits your roof? Shading, which direction your roof faces, and any aesthetic preferences you have can impact how big your system needs to be. Our Solar Experts use advanced technology, satellite imagery, and LiDar maps to help us create a customized system that maximizes energy production better and faster than if we did it by hand.

Do you have frequent power outages? If not, the short answer is no. However, with rolling blackouts and economic instability rising, more and more homeowners are choosing to have backup systems ready should the need arise. Our Solar Experts can show you all backup options available, total cost, and expected benefit for your situation. If you aren't quite ready yet, that's okay too. All of our systems are able to have a backup system added on in the future.

Yes. Depending on the net metering program availble with your utility, some utilities will allow you to sell enough energy back to the grid to offset connection fees, which can reduce your bill to $0, or even go negative, while others have a minimum fee that will always be charged. The amount of energy your system produces also plays a part. If you use more energy than your system is producing, you will buy the excess energy from your utility to ensure you are never without power. No matter the case, solar can drastically reduce your bill.

Studies have shown that homes with solar energy systems sell for more than homes without them. However, your property value will only increase if you own, rather than lease, your solar panel system. In most parts of the country, going solar will actually increase your property value more than a kitchen renovation.

When you install solar panels on your property, you will still be connected to the grid. This allows you to draw from the grid when your system is not producing all of the power that you need, and send power back to the grid when you produce more than you use. It is possible to go off the grid with a solar energy system that includes battery storage, but it will cost significantly more and is not always allowed in certain jurisdictions.

Getting Ready for Solar

The simplest way is to take a look at your electric bill. Take the total amount you paid for that month, and divide it by the total number of kWh you used during the month. This will give you a true price per kWh.

South facing roofs with lots of space are ideal for solar. West facing and East facing roofs also work well depending on utility buyback programs and climate in your area. Little to no shading is ideal, but with advanced technology and lower costs, almost every home is a good candidate. Our Solar Experts can evaluate your home's solar potential and provide you with a comprehensive quote detailing exactly how much solar power can be generated from your roof.

If you can afford your electric bill you can afford to go solar. With many $0 out of pocket options, and rates significantly lower that current utility rates, almost any homeowner can afford to make the switch, and start saving money Day 1. Our Solar Experts can walk you through available programs and incentives to get you on the path to savings using solar energy.

My Solar Options

Own Your System: Many homeowners choose to own their solar system. Whether it is through purchasing the system out right, or taking advantage of our extremely affordable, $0 down solar financing options, it has never been easier to own your power plant. And with government incentives at an all time high, owning a solar system is more affordable than ever.

Lease Your System: While owning the system is great, not everyone is able to take full advantge of the government programs. If you are retired or don't have any taxable income, a lease may make more sense for you. The system is installed, maintained, and fully insured by the leasing company, and you pay only for the power you receive from your system at a steeply discounted rate. You get all the benefits and savings of solar with the certainty that comes with a large utility company.

When you install a solar energy system on your property, you save money on your electricity bills and protect yourself against rising electricity rates in the future. How much you can save depends on the utility rates and solar policies in your area, but going solar is a smart investment regardless of where you live. There are also federal and state incentives for renewable energy systems.

Solar rebates and incentives vary depending on where you live. The most significant is the 30 percent federal investment tax credit (ITC), which allows you to deduct 30 percent of the cost of your solar energy system from your taxes. Some states offer additional tax credits, and certain municipalities and utilities also offer cash rebates or other incentives.
